In your own space, write a love letter to Fandom in general, to a particular fandom, to a trope, a relationship, a character, creator, episode, or it could be your fandom friends. Share your love and squee as loud as you want to.

Okay, I always do a Trope That I Love for this challenge, and this year I am going with Rivals to Lovers.

First of all, this trope is obviously derived from Enemies to Lovers, but they have to actually be COMPETING AGAINST EACH OTHER IN SOMETHING to fit this trope specifically. And the thing that makes both of those tropes so utterly delicious is the simmering tension between the characters. Think Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe in Anne of Green Gables- she is GOING to take the top grade and that annoyingly smart *sshole is NOT going to take it from her or she might actually spontaneously combust.

Promote/Rec/Sing the Praises* of Yourself!

I think I'm a decent writer, but I think there are always a few pieces that feel extra special?


Treacherous was my first rarepair fic, and I literally just reread it because I got a new comment on it and it still hits me in all the right places years later. I love worldbuilding, and so there's a lot of attention to detail when it comes to dyeing/spinning/weaving as well as sailing. I wanted a fic that seriously looked at the relationship between the twins and their conniving, thrill seeking ways. It also explores the ideas of culture shock and immigration, which is an issue I'm constantly confronted with in real life. And there's a sexist trope subversion in it that I'm really proud of. From my A/N:

Female characters usually have constrained roles in romance: unless a guy likes you first, it’s wrong to chase after him. Who wants to be the cougar, the seductress, the harpy? The scorned, desperate woman?

Rejection from a man is absolute; unsolicited female desire is seen as this gross, predatory thing- and yet the converse is not. If a man likes you, you WILL come around. So stop fighting; give him a chance even if you find him repugnant. Once you get to know what a Nice Guy he is, you will change your mind.

So I wanted to do a little trope flipping since Ruffnut’s desire for Eret is merely played for laughs in HTTYD2, to write a story where Ruff just might win Eret over by being herself; discover there’s more to both of them besides what you can see on the surface. (This is HTTYD fandom after all.)

Bonus: the differing needs of co-dependent but individual twins-- how does that not push a writer’s buttons?

This fic totally consumed me for months and I'm still not over the hangover. LOL My first crossover, bodyswap and non-linear timeline fic. Also included: epistolary, soulmates and prophecies which are a few of my favorite tropes. This was my first thoroughly outlined fic- I had to understand how the plot twists and clues and timelines would be laid out before I plowed on in, which is not at all how I used to write but with the skeleton all there I wrote so much faster than I'd ever done. It was such a relief to finish that I'm still hedging on the followup that readers have asked for. Like I think part of me is scared it won't measure up? IDK


Okay, if the ending of Gideon the Ninth didn't break your heart, you are made of sterner stuff than me. Here's a fix-it that is so right and so plausible with what we know in canon thus far. (One flesh, one end, bitch.) Also Gideon's voice is just perfect, LOL poor Harrow.

ETA: UGH WHAT IS WITH THE FORMATTING. Sorry, circle: every time I try to cut this it just screws up the formatting and randomly inserts the end cut tag into the text which?! Has now screwed up all the indents. So I am leaving this uncut. I think it just doesn't like the interaction between div and cut tags and I have to choose one and not both.
