Every time I see a FB friend proudly declare that they've silenced all mention of politics on the feed because it's all just negging, I'm sort of amazed that they think they're privileged enough not to have any of this affect them at all. Sure, the "get over it, it'll be fine" assholes are mostly white men, but the number of white women and MOC who put up statuses like this make me feel SERIOUSLY JUDGEY.


IT WON'T COST MUCH. JUST YOUR VOICE! THOSE POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS (are not me hahahahaha)

Jane the Virgin continues to delight. The humor (The puns! The total disregard for the 4th wall via the narrator!) and political snark is totally on point, as are all the character dynamics. I lovelovelove how every single character gets their own POV explored! Nobody is a foil or a prop- they're all their own people, with their own selfish (and unselfish) motivations, actively writing their own stories. This show totally deserves all the accolades it got in S1, although it makes me sad that the ratings remain lackluster. :(((

I also wonder at the lack of compassion in being able to do so. :|

I get the instinct to look away. It's hard to look at suffering. FB is no longer a place that they can comfortably surf and look at wedding/baby announcement/vacation pics. But wow, to declare how much more important one's own discomfort is to people getting their rights and healthcare and jobs taken away just appalls me. And it's like rebuking the people complaining, in a backhanded way? IDK

I can understand needing to step away and regroup because it gets overwhelming, but..."negging?"

Pure negativity; focusing on the negative to try to undermine other's confidence.

I understand too- I can barely write if I open FB or twitter because there's been a new thing added to the plate of horrors every single day. But staying informed is crucial too, or your own decisions are going to be impacted. I'm not going to go "LALALALA I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOU" at people I know, and I don't want to just hide in a bubble and hope it all passes. It's not going to, not for people who look like me. It never has. :/

That's the thing. This could eventually have an effect on everyone, even white men, if left unchecked for too long. I have family members who are "sick of hearing about it, the positive & the negative" & it's like, I am too, but we can't get complacent. Marches aren't a thing around here, so I've had to settle for when people who are clearly curious (not fierce Trump supporters who will hear no reason) about why whats he's doing is wrong & what the law says, explaining it so maybe they won't vote for him the next time.
Checking out your list of places to send $ too. My ability to do so is going to be limited in light of a house purchase, but I'm definitely sending some donations this year.
