Snowflake #7 and 8

AAck I am behind on these because I was working on a fic and a GIFset. But those are out of the way so I'm going to try to catch up on DW messages etc!
Challenge #7
In your own space, create your own challenge.
Well, I'm actually linking a couple of challenges that I've been participating in:
Fanfic Comment Writing Month
The Challenge: Comment on every fanfic you read and enjoy in the month of January.
I always try to comment when I find a fic I enjoy anyway, but I love the way they explain why they want people to go out there and make an effort to comment more:
The Philosophy: Comments are what keep a fandom thriving and growing.
"We don’t see comments as a transaction. They’re not a price paid for reading a fic. We see comments as an interaction, a way of building relationships. Comments are a courtesy, not a currency.
Fandom is a relationship between dozens, hundreds, thousands, maybe millions of fans, and the only way for the greater fandom relationship to function, is for those fans to interact. One way to interact is by writing and reading fanfic. A writer prompts an interaction by posting their work; it is up to the reader to then acknowledge (or not acknowledge)."
Genuary
"Genuary is a multifandom fanfic event focused on boosting the visibility of gen fic (i.e., fanfic where a romantic relationship is not the focus of the plot). It (formally) takes place during the last two weeks of January (for 2021, Jan 17-30). Genuary is an event for both new fic and boosting older works that have been overlooked. To follow Genuary on social media, please follow the #genuary or #genuary 2021 tag on Tumblr and Twitter, follow this Tumblr, and/or join the official AO3 collection"
I think Gen fic gets overlooked a lot, so it's a good opportunity to give it some love. :)
Challenge #8
In your own space, create a wishlist.
I got a job offer yesterday so my biggest wish just got filled! :DDD But here are some mostly fannish wishes:
1. Interaction with my works on AO3 is always awesome (kudos, comments, bookmarks, whatever!)! Recent fandoms include: The Queen's Gambit, Star Wars Original Trilogy, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Talents series and The Folk of the Air series.
2. Likes and Reblogs of my tumblr GIFsets. Recent fandoms include The Queen's Gambit and Game of Thrones, with a sizeable helping of evermore lyrics.
3. Here's my
chocolateboxcomm letter if you feel up to writing treats! Requested fandoms are The Queen's Gambit, Game of Thrones, Lost in Space and Bridgerton.
4. Please stay home if you can. Please wear a mask and continue to social distance when you have to go out. 2020 is over but the pandemic still isn't.

Date: 2021-01-16 11:47 am (UTC)Genuary sounds like an excellent idea, even if you do prefer a pairing you don't always have to write them as a pair, your couple could easily be written in a way that doesn't have them actively in a relationship.
Congratulations on the job offer, I really hope it's something you're going to enjoy, it makes such a difference :)
I'll head over and bookmark your A03, always happy to read fic, whether I know the fandom or not, it's just like picking up a new book, lol.
Such a true statement that 2020 is over but the pandemic isn't! I care for my 87 year old mother and she lives with me. I applied for early retirement in February last year and had to give four months notice, I then got out in 12 weeks shielding in March, so never actually went back to work. I've been staying in since the beginning of March, only venturing out to pick up prescriptions or take my mother to her hospital appointments. Wearing a mask and distancing is automatic now but hey, we're still here and safe!
Thank you for sharing and stay safe yourself :)

Date: 2021-01-17 12:40 am (UTC)Yes! In fact one of the fics I'm going to submit has my OTP. But they started as kids who became friends, and that's the dynamic in that fic- that foundation is a sweet thing to capture, IMO.
Oh, it's not my dream job, but it is going to be a fun one, methinks. I love enthusiastic Uni students. :D
LOL goodness, I suppose that is what going into a new book is like! I tend to make a lot of assumptions that the reader should know some things from canon in my fics though.
I'm glad you're safe and healthy- it is automatic, but I can see how people are getting lax and I understand how we are all just tired of being cooped up. Like there is a vaccine rolling out now, but school isn't actually out for summer y'all, we can't be tearing outside willy nilly until we've at least got our vulnerable populations covered. :( The rate here is spiking and no lockdown, no media coverage. siiiigh. My husband was like, the last lockdown was useless- nothing happened and businesses went under. And I was like, THAT WAS THE POINT DUDE, we DIDN'T get piles of bodies! THAT IS THE ABSOLUTE WIN. :/

Date: 2021-01-17 11:03 pm (UTC)So many people say that lockdowns are useless, yet the infection and death rate goes way down. The trouble is that once lockdown is lifted, everyone rushes out and behaves like nothing is wrong, like crowding into shops, partying, etc. That's what causes the problems, if people would just be a little more patient until enough people can be vaccinated!

Date: 2021-01-16 02:19 pm (UTC)We don't share any fandoms, but I checked out the first page of your Tumblr and reblogged two GIFsets because I liked the text that went with the graphics.

Date: 2021-01-16 08:13 pm (UTC)i like a lot of your queen's gambit gif sets. i admit i only skimmed but i have your tumblr open in another tab so i can go through them more slowly and reblog.
i'm a firm believer in comments - i comment on every fic i finish - and i totally agree with that comment challenge's philosophy. comments are an exchange between writer and reader. they're not payment and they shouldn't be obligatory. but the back and forth helps form (or at least build) a community.

Date: 2021-01-17 12:51 am (UTC)Thanks! I think my Queen's Gambit stuff is my best work, but really that's due to accrued experience making GIFS. LOL
And I totally agree! I had a friend who was very firm on the Comments Are Currency thing, and I could never quite express why it made me so GD uncomfortable.
