I found this ep a bit filler-ish? I just got the feeling that the writers are trying to connect the bigger dots in their narrative with not-so plausible plot points instead of making an ep that stood up on its own? Also I was sorely disappointed on the Kolvina front:

SERIOUSLY? WE WAITED A MONTH FOR ONE SCENE? AND IT WASN'T EVEN A MORNING AFTER ONE??? (Like it was sweet and hot and he vamped out while they were getting it on which is A+++ in my book BUT COME ON. Also we finally get a love confession from Kol and it's in an oblique way TO ELIJAH??? But Kol's miserable "Isn't it?" and crying got to me even though it normally would have made me snerk. AHHHHH. WHAT IS THIS SHIP DOING TO ME.

So I think the obvious solution is for him to use Finn's plan and hijack another witch body but TBH I'd rather he go after The Cure because it's what got him staked in the first place and I think that has a nice sort of irony/poetry. (Especially if the leaked spoilers are true.)

They were not even trying with the mystical explanations! FINN JUST CAME BACK SANS ASH (so we will have an Original target that the fans won't resent losing to fulfill one leg of this prophecy) AND RANDO VAMP IS IMMUNE TO MAGIC JUST BECAUSE. And man, are the Ancestors finally toughening up vs the vamps? HOW INEXPLICABLY CONVENIENT.

I liked how they had Josh point out how older vamps tend to suck at using tech though. :DDD And YAY JOSH GETTING A PROPER FIGHT SCENE.

I am sad about Lucien probably being the Biggest Bad of the season though. Poo. We finally get a vamp who uses Science and Tech to defeat ~magic and of course he'll likely catch it. UGGGHH  I love how they flipped the 3x14 "Vervain ropes, Penetrating spells? Throw in a Pinot and a cheap motel and you've got the beginnings of a romance" with Freya being bound this time and it being White Oak, wolf venom and a case of champagne. LOL BRING IT ON. :DDDD

I also loved the Klayley scenes because their verbal sparring is perfection. I can't believe he kept that stupid cap on though LMAOOO

Haha, I agree on your thoughts. And I am enjoying Kol/Davina and all their angst! The entire episode felt a bit disjointed to me; there were a lot of characters and various different implausible things going on, and I never really quite followed it but that might also be a result of the long break meaning I've forgotten what's going on... I might have to watch it again and see if it holds up better.

I am! I just haven't gotten around to posting... anything.

Kol's angst was delicious and I love how he and Davina bonded over wanting to make Finn suffer. She's not all that different to the Mikaelsons in her own way.

Yeah, this episode felt like filler to me, too. But Klaus wearing the trucker hat made me howl.

Is this the first time we've ever seen him apologize to anyone? I don't remember seeing it before, but I could be wrong.
