I think she is behaving exactly like a kid who is secure in the love of her parent, yes. LOL Teens usually get to the point where they start appreciating their folks though- the ones I taught anyway. Like they still think they are soooo much smarter than mom and dad but it's usually snark and not overt bitching out.
