 So the powers that be have called for a shutdown of all public schools in the country. I mean, it makes sense: anybody who has ever seen what counts as "washing hands" to the average 7 year old combined with the upcoming Tokyo Summer Olympics will want to throw a wrench into that terrifying clockwork. Thing is, it means I won't be able to work next month. In fact this move disproportionately affects women in the workplace, since we get the burden of childcare here by default. 

Guess not being able to afford extracurriculars doesn't matter when we are basically under house arrest for the next little while, but man. This sucks.

In other news, I've been rewatching the Nolanverse Batman films and therefore rereading and rewriting my Batcat fic from 2012. A couple things of note:

wheatear , this is all your fault! I was just minding my own business, blissfully letting that fic languish in abandonedville, until your Selina Kyle meta rolled across my screen. *shakes fist* Rewriting makes it clear that I've got a less rosy worldview now than I did 8 years ago, but since I think that works a lot better for Selina's POV, I think it's a good thing? 

Plus the actor (Jack Gleeson) that played Joffrey Baratheon had a part in Batman Begins and I kept expecting him to do something bratty and sadistic despite his role as "innocent bystander kid from slums". LOL I think this effect is partly why Marvel's Inhumans totally flopped- nobody believes Iwan Rheon can be a good guy superhero, okay, even if we know he's not really Ramsay Bolton. Also why wasn't Katie Holmes wearing a bra in her scenes outside? I was totally shivering out of sympathy!

We've been hearing that schools could shut for 2 months here if things get bad too. Hope you and your family stay safe.

I dunno. I feel like the mass panic is disproportionate to the severity of the disease, but that might not be rational either. People are stockpiling toilet paper and rice and masks like it's 3/11 all over again and it all makes me deeply uncomfortable.

Man, they are such a good ship. I am also intrigued by the reboot coming up, but I looove Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle so much. She had chemistry with everybody!

Sorry to hear you've been affected by the quarantine. :/ That said, there's a part of me that's envious of anywhere your government takes illness seriously enough to do something like that. We're stuck with a dude who thought someone who made the AIDs crisis WORSE in his home state should be in charge of this.

I've been stuck at home with a stomach flu for a solid week now, but it's not the scary one. I might be joining you on that Nolanverse rewatch though.

OMG DOOO ITTTT. I love how well crafted the whole trilogy is!

Yeah, the worst of the panic stockpiling will hopefully ease soon. I hate it when people act like mobs. :(

I'm gonna! I have one Korean thriller to knock out first, then I'm starting the Nolanverse rewatch. :)

Yeesh. Yeah, that's frightening. I both understand the panic, and wish people wouldn't at the same time, if that makes sense. I actually talked to my doctor about this, and he said that technically the coronavirus is less fatal than this year's flu, just a lot more contagious. And also we don't have a vaccine yet, so that's why people are nervous.

Things haven't got that bad here yet in England. We are just being told to wash our hands etc! It does sound scary to have to shut down all the schools. I hope you stay safe!
