I got to see it opening weekend here (yay!) and I’m a little disappointed there was no promotional postcard given out like I got for Pacific Rim and The Force Awakens. Come on! We got it a whole week later than the rest of the world- no goodies? :(

It was awesome anyway- I laughed, I cringed, I cried. I didn’t expect the latter- GotG doesn’t take itself that seriously so I didn’t expect to be moved to tears not once but twice. The emotional scenes were really well done too- I loved the character/relationship arcs and the continuing theme of found family. Plus the execution was great, with fun camera angles and pretty graphics and the way the music meshed. Baby Groot was especially adorable! Spoilers! )All in all, a great sequel that both built on and added depth to the story and characters from the first GotG. Anybody see it in 3D? I’m debating going into town next week to see it in 3D if it’s worth the additional cost. (Local theater doesn’t have a subbed version in 3D.)

Day 10

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.

Okay I just need to draft this somewhere that is meant for writing and not a GIF caption.

Okay here is me putting my unbridled optimism down somewhere. Yes, I have only myself to blame if I get kicked in the teeth by canon, but I don't think anything I spec is too far fetched?

I know my tumblr blog has been a solid wall of squee over this ship, but we have a few weeks until it crashes so let me bask in the glory of it a little longer, okay guys? :DDD

There are so many themes that get me all !!! but I'm going to try to sum up what makes me ship them so damn hard:

This is one of my favorite shippy tropes. Characters who know each other so well that they can read each other’s minds and therefore act with unthinking synchronization. Extra points for when it’s displayed under extreme pressure.

Usually we see this in fight scenes. E.g. Huntingbird from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (with bonus bickering, hahahah):

Or Mako/Raleigh (Maleigh) from Pacific Rim (Mentally linked via machinery, although they had to demonstrate this kind of compatibility first.):

Or from The Incredibles (Helen and Bob Parr):

And then there are pairings who take this to a whole new level like Fitzsimmons (also from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Co-dependent to start, and now independent after being separated several times-- and yet still very much connected.

"You and Simmons are so tight. It's like you're psychically linked." )

I am still emotionally compromised by this episode.

Mostly !!! over Coliver and Annalise/Connor )

Basically I really need a drink now. XD Also how the heck does that prosecutor get assigned the case straight after her fumble? IDGI
nrgburst: (coliver)
Okay, rewatching S1 has me back to intense levels of love for the Coliver ship, which reminds me of (ouch) Forwood from TVD and also (yay?) Steve/Miranda from SaTC.

I should really be writing fic BUT I need to unburden myself somewhere after several weeks of frustration in the #catherine de medici tag. Like come on tumblr. THIS SHIP IS AWESOME.

I loved the way TVD explored this trope in season five, because of the way it both subverted and played it straight with one of my faves: Katherine Pierce. There is both redemption and utter selfishness in her interactions with Nadia Petrova, who we eventually discover is her long-lost daughter. Katherine’s number one has always been herself, but we discover she’s capable of maternal feelings when she makes some dastardly –and also unexpectedly compassionate-- choices in order to protect her daughter.Read more... )

Reign has spent its current season methodically deconstructing this trope and also applying liberal amounts of Screw the Money, I have Rules! to explore the politics of ruling now that Francis has become King of France. The same trope also comes into play when the show explores the impact of financial freedom in a world where noblewomen usually have no direct access to money.

Okay, I just feel the need to explain why I went from , "aw, they're cute" after How To Train Your Dragon in 2010 to I SHIP THIS LIKE BURNING in the space of like, a month. And mostly from a one minute clip before HTTYD2 even came out. This is embarrassing.
